How long does a re-roof take?

For a typical NZ house, published guides suggest around 3–7 working days on site; simple single-storey homes are often quicker, and large, complex or two-storey roofs take longer 12.

A typical sequence

  1. Scaffold up (often the day before)
  2. Strip a section, check and repair framing, lay underlay
  3. Fix new roofing and flashings, close in daily
  4. Ridges, penetrations, spouting
  5. Final check, clean-up, scaffold down

What adds time

  • Rain or high wind days
  • Rotten battens or framing found during strip-off
  • Asbestos removal before the new roof
  • Difficult access

Frequently asked

Can a re-roof be done in winter?

Yes, with careful staging so only what can be closed in that day is stripped. Expect more weather days lost.
