Access on hillside sections
Many city homes sit above or below the road with steps instead of driveways. That affects scaffolding, how materials get on site and how old roofing comes off, so it's priced into your quote up front rather than discovered on the day.
Villas and bungalows
Corrugate is the traditional roof on many inner-suburb villas, and like-for-like corrugate keeps the character. Where an old roof has lasted more than 15 years, a comparable replacement is generally exempt from consent 1. Heritage areas may have district plan rules, so check with Wellington City Council if your home is in one.
Wind and the south coast
Exposed ridgelines and the south coast are some of the windiest residential sites in the country. NZS 3604 Very High and Extra High zones are 50 m/s and 55 m/s design speeds 2, and fixing patterns step up accordingly. South-coast and harbour-edge homes can also fall into COLORSTEEL®'s Severe or Very Severe categories, which typically start within roughly 100–500 m of breaking surf or beside large harbour foreshores 3.

Frequently asked
Can you work on homes with no vehicle access?
Yes. Step-access sites take more planning for scaffold and materials handling, which is included in the quote.
